Mirko and his struggle against water scarcity in northern communities
In the communities of northern Argentina, access to water makes the difference between survival and the possibility of a dignified future. In Misión La Loma, Embarcación (Salta), the lack of drinking water was a daily struggle for families. Without a safe source, crops dried up, animal husbandry was limited and illnesses from drinking contaminated water especially affected children.

Four years ago, with the support of Pata Pila, a process of transformation began. The first great victory was water. With the construction of 16,000-liter wells, the expansion of community networks and the addition of solar-powered pumping systems, the community left behind the uncertainty of relying on sporadic and unreliable sources.

"Before, this was just bush. Now there are houses, gardens and families working together to get ahead.", says Mirko Neuenshwander, a community leader.
The impact of water was immediate: families were able to grow their own food, raise animals and start small productive ventures. From depending on outside assistance, they moved on to producing goat milk, cheese and vegetables, which not only improved their diet but also gave them the chance to earn an income.
"We always dreamed of having something of our own. Today we have 30 goats, we produce milk and we learned to make cheese. All this helps us live better.", says Mirko proudly.
But water was only the beginning. With training, tools and the effort of the whole community, growth doesn't stop. In an environment of extreme weather and economic challenges, having a garden, raising animals and ensuring access to fresh food represents more than an improvement in quality of life: it is the foundation of a sustainable future.
"The weather is extreme, the economy is hard, but having a garden and raising our own animals gives us hope.", say those who, day by day, keep building a new reality.
Like this one, there are many stories of transformation in northern Argentina. The journey continues, and the impact grows.
