Child poverty in Argentina has reached alarming levels. According to a report by the consultancy ExQuanti, based on data from the INDEC Permanent Household Survey (EPH), seven out of ten children live in households mired in poverty, a critical situation that has intensified in the first quarter of this year.
Since 2015, Pata Pila has been dedicated to fighting child malnutrition, working tirelessly to improve the living conditions of the most vulnerable children in Argentina. Diego Bustamante, the organization's founder, expresses his concern: "It is disheartening to see how politics and the economy in this country are not heading in the right direction. More and more people are being excluded from the system, and sadly, it is becoming normal for people to go hungry."
The figures are devastating: in the first quarter of this year, 70.6% of children and adolescents aged 0 to 17 were affected by poverty, while extreme poverty reached 30.8%, a considerable increase compared with 2023.
Diego Bustamante stresses the importance of long-term solutions to face this crisis: "It is essential to support communities with sustainable tools that let them improve their living conditions. This requires constant technical support, not just isolated training. We need to integrate these communities into the economy in a sustainable way so they truly see an impact on their well-being."
The ExQuanti report also highlights a worrying increase in extreme poverty, which affected 24.7% of the population in the first quarter of 2024. Without government assistance plans, this figure would be even higher, especially among children.
The jump in extreme poverty, from 17.7% in the fourth quarter of 2023 to 24.7% in 2024, reflects the growing vulnerability of the child population, which remains the most affected.
The situation is critical, but together we can make a difference.

A recent UNICEF study reveals that nearly 10 million children in Argentina have reduced their consumption of meat and dairy due to a lack of financial resources. Compared with 2023, there has been a 24% increase in the consumption of noodles and flour, while the intake of fruit and vegetables has dropped alarmingly by 58%.
